When Is the best time to take maternity photos?
A common question is when to plan a maternity session. In most cases, 28 and 35 weeks is great time as your belly is clearly defined by then, but you’re not yet in the final stretch where things are less predictable.
Timing, Without Overthinking It
There’s flexibility within that window. Some people show earlier, others later. If your bump is already visible, you may feel ready before 28 week. The timing doesn’t need to be exact. You’re simply looking for a point where your pregnancy is visible and you still feel comfortable. I’ll also done many shoots past 35 weeks, so don’t worry if you’re in the later stage of your pregnancy but still want to sneak in a photoshoot.
First and Second Pregnancies
If this is your first pregnancy, sessions often land slightly later. With a second or third, it’s common to show earlier, which can shift things forward a bit.
Indoor or Outdoor
The type of session can also play a role. Outdoor sessions depend a bit more on the season, the light, and how far you feel like walking. Earlier in the third trimester can feel easier, especially in hot weather.
Leaving a Bit of Room
It’s worth planning your session before the very end of your pregnancy. Due dates aren’t exact, and scheduling earlier avoids needing to rush or missing the window altogether.
