Family Questions

Q. WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT DURING OUR SESSION?

A.  Expect to have fun, laugh, play...you get the idea.  My approach to photography is lifestyle - which is a hybrid between documentary and more classic portraits. For the majority of our session, you'll be interacting with your family so we can get more authentic and less "posey" shots. My goal is to take pictures that look natural and "candid" with a strong sense of connection. And don't worry if you feel a little uncomfortable having your photo taken (I know I do!) or if your children don't like to sit still.  I'll provide lots of direction and guidance to help your family feel as natural as possible in front of the camera.

Q. WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

A. Most importantly, wear something you feel yourself in. Neutrals tend to look nice in photos but a soft pop of colour or two can also work wonderfully (if colour is your thing). A tip is to try to coordinate your family's outfits, without being too "matchy matchy". (e.g. Good: everyone wears whites/blue/creams/grey/tan and not-so-great: everyone wears jeans and a black shirt).

You can also think about where and when your shoot will be. Forest photos during the fall = darker neutrals and colours like burgundy or deep yellow and boots. Beach photos during the summer = sandals, flowing dresses, pastels. If the weather is a little cooler, I’d suggest layering up as opposed to heavy jackets (although feel free to bring jackets and take them off before the shoot). Try to avoid clothes that are fussy - such as skirts that are too short to sit down easily in, or tops with straps that easily slip out of position. Q. WHAT IF THE WEATHER IS BAD ON THE DAY OF OUR OUTDOOR SESSION?

If the weather forecast is questionable, I will review the weather report and usually make a call 4 hours or so before the session on whether to proceed.  If we are doing an early morning session, we’ll chat the night before. If the weather isn't cooperating, we will reschedule for a mutually agreeable future date.

No worries if it's not a sunny day - cloudy days can actually make for great pictures.
